I visited Sukhothai in 2019 and went back two more times, last time being November 2023 during the Loi Krathong celebrations. The Loi Krathong was celebrated November 18th to 27th in the Sukhothai’s Historical Park. It was magical. Outside celebrations, Sukhothai Historical Park is a must visit.

Sukhothai is about 6 hours away by bus from Chiang Mai. You can also take the train to Phitsanulok then less than an hour bus to get to Sukhothai.

There is the city side and the old town full of historical traces during the golden years of the kingdom or Sukhothai. I spent a few days cycling in the back roads of the old town enjoying the rice fields, rural houses and farms all along.

I found marvelous coffee shops overlooking rice fields, hidden in the little streets. Life is laid back in the old town of Sukhothai. Enjoy the gallery…
