For me, Kuala Lumpur (KL) serves as a convenient transit point for my travels across Southeast Asia. I usually fly into KL from my home country and then take Air Asia to reach my destination.
While KL may not captivate me as much as Bangkok, it offers enough to make my brief stays enjoyable. I typically stay near KL Sentral, the city’s central transportation hub. From KL Sentral, you can easily access trains, the KLIA express, monorails, and buses, all within the convenience of a connected mall.
KL’s bustling streets provide a pleasant walking experience, with a blend of tourist attractions and local hotspots like Chinatown, Little India, and various markets. For those feeling adventurous, they might even walk from downtown up to Bukit Bintang, which is THE favorite shopping area for tourists. Bukit Bintang area has several malls and fast foods, and at night there are numerous street performers to entertain the huge crowds.
Beyond the city, I’ve ventured into nature with hikes at Bukit Tabor and trekking and canopy walks at FRIM in Kepong, which is about 40 minutes away by train.
When taking the KLIA express from KL Sentral to the airport, there’s a stop at the BTS, a major bus hub. From there, you can catch buses to destinations like Melaka or the Cameron Highlands.
Shopping and food are abundant in KL. I particularly enjoy the local eateries where I can savor delicious Nasi or Mee Goreng Namak. I’m also a fan of dosas and naans served with veg curry. The food street in Bukit Bintang is especially popular among tourists, offering a variety of Asian cuisines at competitive prices.
