Just a short 50 to 60-minute drive from Chiang Mai, Mae Kampong village is a lovely little getaway. This tiny village, with its narrow roads and beautiful old wooden buildings now turned into shops and restaurants, is a favorite spot for both locals and tourists.
You can easily explore the village in an hour, but there’s more to see. At the end of the village, there’s a seven-tiered waterfall that’s perfect for a trek. The walk to the waterfall is easy and takes about an hour, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.
The village is a bit hilly, which can be a little challenging to walk around, but it’s worth it. Make sure to stop by one of the cafés located higher up the village for a coffee and take in the amazing views of the green hills around the village.
It’s best to visit Mae Kampong on a weekday to avoid the crowds that come on weekends. The narrow roads can get pretty busy with all the cars driving through.
A visit to Mae Kampong usually takes about three to four hours. This gives you enough time to walk around the village, trek to the waterfall, and relax in a couple of coffee shops.
To get there from Chiang Mai’s Old City, head to the Ping River and find the florist behind the Warorot Market. You’ll see a ‘bus stand’ – actually, these are vans that will take you to Mae Kampong or other cool spots nearby. Enjoy your trip to this charming village!
